About the Position: Pre-Op/PACU RN | Night Shifts

At Vail Valley Surgery Center, the Pre-Op/PACU RN assists patients prior to and after their surgery. Patient safety is a top priority before, during, and after surgery. You will need a caring and empathetic attitude in order to interact well with patients during stressful or difficult times.

Prior to the patient’s surgery, the Pre-Op/PACU RN will assess the patient, complete the necessary paperwork, educate patients on any pre-operative instructions, and prep the patient for the surgery after they are settled in the OR. You will also ensure all necessary pre-operative tests and blood work are complete.

Following the patient’s surgery, you will care for the patient as they wake up from anesthesia. A PACU RN will need to be able to proactively observe and react to the patient’s needs, as they may have difficulty regaining consciousness or suffer from various side effects of anesthesia, such as pain, confusion, nausea, or difficulty breathing. To ensure proper care takes place, you will monitor postoperative vital signs levels of consciousness to ensure that patient safely wakes from anesthesia.

The Pre-Surgical Unit at Vail Valley Surgery Center

Vail Valley Surgical Services is here to guide the patient and family throughout their surgical experience.  Through the pre-surgical planning (PSP), pre-operative, and post-anesthesia care process, an emphasis is placed on educating patients and their families/caregivers on their particular surgical procedures and providing support during this stressful time.
The immediate time prior to and after surgery is termed the “perianesthesia” phase of care. Our goal is to make this perianesthesia time as stress-free and safe as possible for the patient and family.
